Retail shops in Seaton
We are delighted to report some activity on retail shops in Seaton, we have just found for two lock up shops recently. Commercially we have found it rather too quiet for our liking for most of the summer. We have seen the number of shops start to build up as they became empty for one reason or another. What is happening to retail shops in Seaton seems to be the story across the region and I suspect nationally from our conversations with other commercial agents.
The uncertainty surrounding Brexit seems to be the culprit, we have been successfully letting retail shops in Seaton throughout the recession and have only recently encountered more difficulty in letting and selling commercial property. We consider that the town has performed very well for attracting new businesses for letting retail shops in Seaton, thanks largely to the steady improvements being made to the town. Premier Inn have made the decision to open in the town centre early in 2018 following their highly successful venture in Exmouth. We have also seen an increase in enquiries from out of the area. These people have arrived at the same conclusion that Seaton is an up and coming town and now is the time to get in and start trading.
With the Small Buisness Rates Relief scheme still offering no business rates to eligible properties and proprietors it is only the rent and running costs that you have to cover. The 100% reduction has been in force for a number of years now for SBRR and the only factor that need to be considered is that this could be removed or reduced at the whim of the government. The rental levels have remained stable in the town over the past few years and are favorable compared with our neighbors in Lyme Regis and Sidmouth.
